Lietvesi is typical Saimaa north of the Salpausselkäs: the labyrinthine watercourse area is punctuated by rocky islands and intersected by a stretchs of eskers, remnants from the ice age. Typically for the area, the main type of rock in the bedrock is garnet-cordierite-mica gneiss intersected by granite dikes. There is also an ancient, steep-sloped hill fort nearby which features remnants of rocky embankments.
