Nationally significant built cultural environment
The wooden church in Taipalsaari was completed in 1754. It was possibly designed by Eskil Collanus from Sortavala, who had previously restored an unfinished church in Lappe. The belfry was built in 1750. Originally built too small, the church was enlarged in the 1840s.
Since its completion, the church has been renovated several times. The church was enlarged to its present form during a renovation in 1846-47 and was planked inside and out in the early 20th century. The most recent renovation of the church was carried out in 2019. The belfry dates back to 1750. Taipalsaari Church is open for events.
You can learn more about the geology of the area from the Saimaa Geopark sign between the church and Röytty.
