Viihdy Saimaalla Aktiviteetit M/S Emma

Unforgettable moments

The sauna ship Emma cruises from Imatra passenger harbour in South Karelia to the clear waters of Lake Saimaa. Emma is ideal for small group cruises or as a support vessel for events in the port. The sauna ship Emma has all the comforts of home, including a bright kitchen, lounge, toilet and beds for nine people. On the sun deck (25 m2) you can enjoy the view of the Saimaa lake. M/S Emma organises cruises with sauna, swimming and dining. Cruises longer than three hours include a sauna.

The home port is Imatra passenger harbour, where all cruises depart and return.

History of M/S Emma

The M/S Emma was built in 1908 for the Stockfors mill on the Kymijoki River, as Stockfors 1. In the 1970s, as the ship's use declined, the steam engines were removed and she was sold as a steel mill. A couple of teachers bought the hull for 1000 marks. Construction work began in Kotka and in 1974 the Emma was launched. Two Bedford engines, a galley, a sauna and a pantry were installed.

The Emma was given a new name and a home port in Sulkava. In 2006, the Emma got new owners. In November, in a light snowfall, Emma was driven to her new home port in Imatra. After that, the springs were a time of renovation: the electricity was renewed, the roof terrace was put into use and access was added. The exterior and interior surfaces were put in better condition, the water bath and swimming platform were inaugurated, the controls were renewed, etc., but summers were spent enjoying being there. In spring 2009 Emma was surveyed as a rental boat.
