Suur-Savo Museum
The City of Mikkeli Museum of Cultural History, Suur-Savo Museum presents and records the history of Mikkeli and the Mikkeli region. The museum's exhibition rooms are located in a stone borrowed building built in 1848 by the parish of Mikkeli. The building has been used as a museum since 1960.
The museum's main exhibition tells the story of the peasant culture of South Savo and the history of the city of Mikkeli. The second floor of the building houses the museum's collections of pewter, china and textiles. Among other things, the museum exhibits ancient costumes from the Mikkeli region. On the third floor are artefacts relating to the history of the city and artefacts relating to craftsmen. In addition to the main exhibition, the museum presents annually changing thematic exhibitions on the first floor of the building.
