Landscapes and landforms tell the story of our planet's long and diverse history. Our environment, shaped over millennia and millions of years, has had a major influence on the way we live here. Landscapes are not only shaped by nature, but also carry stories and memories that can be personal or cultural.
What does landscape mean to you? Could it be a place where you spent your childhood summers, or perhaps a landscape that reminds you of a special moment in your life?
Enter the photo competition with a picture you have taken in the Saimaa Geopark area showing a landscape or place that is meaningful to you. The photo can also include people or buildings that highlight the cultural and historical significance of the area.
At the same time, you will be taking part in the 20th anniversary celebrations of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

contest rules
Brief:
- The competition is free of charge and only individuals (excluding Geoparks staff and their families) can enter.
- 1 photo per competitor
- Participation only with digital photos (JPG) NOTE: no watermarks on photos!
- Photos must be taken by you.
- The location must be in the Saimaa Geopark area (Imatra, Lappeenranta, Puumala, Ruokolahti, Savitaipale, Sulkava, Taipalsaari, Juva, Mikkeli)
- Image manipulation is allowed (i.e. deleting, adding, distorting or reversing objects in the image)
1. Earth visual odyssey -photo contest
- The competition is organised by Saimaa Geopark.
- The competition is also part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network (GGN) international visual competition Earth Visual Odyssey. The competition has three levels: local, national and international. Saimaa Geopark's jury will select three images for the national competition for Finnish geoparks. All five UNESCO Geoparks in Finland will organise a photo competition in autumn 2024. Each Geopark will select its three best photos, from which the three best Finnish Geopark photos will be chosen. The winning Finnish photos will be sent, with the agreement of the photographers, to an international competition organised by the Global Geoparks Network (GGN).
- The competition is open to everyone (except Geoparks staff and their families).
- You can take your photo with your phone or camera.
- The competition is open to photos taken in the Saimaa Geopark area (Imatra, Lappeenranta, Puumala, Ruokolahti, Savitaipale, Sulkava, Taipalsaari, Juva, Mikkeli).
- The photo title must mention the location
2. Competition photos
- The photos must be taken by the photographer and must be original.
- Image manipulation is allowed (i.e. deleting, adding, distorting or reversing objects in the image).
- Each competitor may submit one (1) image.
- If the photos include others, you must have their consent to be photographed.
- The names of the winners of the draw and the winners selected by the jury may be published on Saimaa Geopark's website and social media channels.
- We will contact the winners personally.
3. The right to use the images
- The organiser has the right to publish photos of the race and the winners' photos in connection with the competition on its social media channels and website without any additional charge.
- Unauthorised disclosure of the images to third parties is prohibited.
- The photographer keeps the copyright of the images entered in the competition.
- The organiser may only use the images entered in the competition later on after the competition with the permission of the photographer.
- The organiser may not edit or change the content or cropping of the image without the permission of the photographer.
- Any personal data provided in connection with participation will be processed in accordance with the Personal Data Act. Read Saimaa Geopark ry's privacy policy
- The image must not infringe the trademark rights, copyrights, moral rights, intellectual property rights or privacy rights of any entity or person. The content of the images must not be influenced by any third party.
Send a photo by 15.11.2024. We will reward the winning picture of Saimaa Geopark.
