Experience the wonderful scenery of the cliff

The strait adjacent to Luotolahdenvuori formed in the bedrock’s fracture zone and is characterised by massive, and in many places steep, rock walls, which rise straight up from the water to a height of 45 metres. The main type of rock in the area is granodiorite. It crystallised from the magma formed deep in the Earth’s crust during mountain folding in ancient times. The slow crystallisation of the molten rock around 1890-1870 million years ago resulted in the emergence of various plutonic rocks, such as granodiorite. Types of rock created deep in the Earth’s crust are visible today because the highest parts of the folded mountains have been worn away due to surface erosion.
