Linnankoski power plant

In 1915, Tornator Oy leased the power plant and supplied electricity. The power plant was finally decommissioned in 1929 when the new power plant of Imatra Voima was built. The Linnankoski power plant in Vuoksi, Imatra, was submerged when the Imatra power plant was completed and the Vuoksi rose several metres. The power plant is located in the Pässiniemi area, south of the Hilja yard in the Saimaa Geopark nature and cultural site.

Interesting dive site

The structures include partially collapsed walls, rafters at the bottom and turbine openings and their shutters. The footbridge of the power plant is clearly identifiable. Crabs are abundant in the area and large pike have also been recorded. The site is occasionally subject to a moderately strong current, which becomes stronger at the eastern end. The current is stronger on weekdays and weakens on Sundays. Summer rafting events also increase the current strength. Visibility ranges from 2 to 8 metres, with a maximum depth of 10 metres. The ruins are located about 50 m from the shore. There is a small jetty on the beach and the site is marked by a buoy. There are two signposts at the site, one leading to the crab track and the other to the power station.

The site is suitable for beginners, provided you have good scuba diving skills. The power station is located on the west side of Vuoksi, 400 metres downstream from Imatra Swimming Hall. It is about 150 metres away by car.
