Mikkeli Art Museum
The Art Museum started its activities in 1970 as the Johannes Haapasalo Museum. In 1976, after the museum received the Martti Airio art collection as a donation, the name was changed to Mikkel Art Museum. It was renamed the South Savo Regional Art Museum in 1981. Until 2018, the museum was housed in a so-called granite house designed by architect Armas Ranka in 1912.
Variable exhibitions
The Mikkel Art Museum offers a wide range of expert services in the field of art, as well as researching, documenting and exhibiting visual art. The museum focuses on exhibitions, visual art from the South Savo region, the management and development of the art collections held by the museum, and the presentation and collection of Finnish illustration art. The museum also provides an interactive and experiential learning environment through workshops and art education projects.
