Experience the special moraine ridges

Suuri and Pieni Sarviniemi are water-encircled marginal moraines of the Second Salpausselkä ice marginal formation, created by the momentary stagnation of the melting glacier between 11 800 and 11 600 years ago. As the ridges formed by the Sarviniemi  were washed away by the waves, particularly during the SuurSaimaa phase, the bouldery nature of the deposited material is accentuated on the peninsulas.

Sarviniemi is also an excursion site for the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation. Sarviniemi is a day trip destination. It is not allowed to stay overnight.
