Experience Kuurmanpohja's more than 10,000-year-old residence

The Kuurmanpohja-Saarenoja site was inhabited during the Mesolithic time around 10 000-11 000 years ago.

Saimaa Geopark and the Rural Explorer project have had good cooperation by combining geological heritage and cultural stories about geo-, natural- and cultural sites. One of the examples of the collaboration is a video combining expert knowledge and story of Kuurmanpohja-Saarenoja’s Stone Age dwelling site.

Information about the story: Kuurmanpohja in Joutseno had permanent habitation as early as 10,500 years ago. Digs in recent years have provided evidence that the people settled on the ancient lake hunted and even quarried on a small scale, to procure material for tools and weapons. It is very likely that they also had dogs as companions.
