ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY VALUES AND ACTIONS
Lappeenranta is an international university and tourist city located on Finland's south-eastern border, whose development is guided by environmentally friendly values and actions. Lappeenranta, on the shores of Lake Saimaa, has been named Finland's Climate Capital for the second time and is popular with both shoppers and nature lovers.
Lappeenranta wants to be a model city for environmental sustainability. Green power and vitality come from the cooperation between the city, the university, the university of applied sciences and entrepreneurs in the area. The university develops sustainable energy solutions and environmental protection-related inventions for use by local businesses, among others. There are visible results in the protection of water bodies such as the Little Lake. Determined efforts are being made to reduce traffic emissions and waste.
The city is building a solid basis for vitality by promoting equal opportunities for its residents to pursue leisure activities and by ensuring a pleasant environment. At the same time as increasing services in the city centre, green corridors will be strengthened and residents will be encouraged to lead a physical lifestyle.
Lappeenranta is a unique combination of commercial services, an entrepreneurial atmosphere, lake nature and history. The harbour and the historic fortress, located close to the city centre, are at the heart of a city known for its hospitality by residents and tourists alike.
