BEAUTIFUL MIKKELI
The Mikkeli region is a tourist area made up of seven municipalities - Mikkeli, Hirvensalmi, Juva, Kangasniemi, Mäntyharju, Pertunmaa and Puumala. To the east the area is dominated by Lake Saimaa and to the north-west it borders on Lake Puula in South Savo and the Kyyvesi lake recreation area. The Mikkeli region is a paradise for local food lovers, adrenaline-seekers, nature lovers, families with children and culture lovers.
Mikkeli can call itself the birthplace of Savo. Founded in 1838, the city takes its name from the archangel Michael. Many people know Mikkeli as the headquarters city of the Finnish wars, where Mannerheim and his general staff were a familiar sight.
In Mikkeli, equality, sustainable development, education, security and pride in what you do are the basic principles of life. Welfare, vitality and inclusion create a safe place for Mikkeli residents to live and create something new. Mikkeli has courage and expertise in an urban environment, not forgetting its distinctive urban centres and the nature we love so deeply.
Mikkeli is a reliable platform for new ideas and innovations - we are particularly well known for our digital, technological, organic, tourism and forestry expertise
